Mangrove Planting in Placencia

vlcsnap-2014-06-04-20h37m08s193vlcsnap-2014-06-04-20h40m24s10133 year old Adrian Vernon, the program director for PCSD (Placencia Citizens for Sustainable Development) died in the early weeks of February 2014.

Vernon was described by his colleagues as a “passionate environmentalist” committed to protecting Belize’s resources, particularly those of the Placencia Lagoon, and an all around the good guy.

Therefore, on Friday of last week about four hundred mangrove seedlings were planted in the banks of the canal adjacent to the airstrip in Placencia village in memory of Adrian Vernon.

The environmental project was organized by the Placencia Mangrove Planting Project.

The Southern Environmental Association has announced that there will be other initiatives in memory of Adrian Vernon, including a scholarship and a Mangrove Restoration guide.
