People in the Marathon Community came together to put up some benches in the Macal River Park. The idea came from the knowledge that many students who visit the park regularly have nowhere to sit. Plus TV was onsite on Monday, while work was still underway. Earl Trapp, the town Counsellor, expressed his gratitude towards the people that got involved in this project
We would like to thank the community for coming out and participating in the development of our town. We believe that by having the community participating in our development, they will more appreciate what we have. Hense the reason they will take care of what we are putting together.
Plus TV also spoke to Mick Flinning, President of the Marathon Community, and he told us about construction plans for the Park in the near future
The idea we have is to build a walkway track going [all] the way round this field here. It’s about 550 yards. It’s going to be six feet wide. There’s some people who have already said that they will pledge to do certain parts of the pathway. It’s going to be thirty-six Belize dollars a running foot. Anybody in the community who wants to be a part can pledge a foot, ten feet, fifty feet, whatever they can afford. It doesn’t really matter who does it, the main thing is that people do it, and then it becomes something they can use for exercise and that kind of stuff.
