Mechanic charged for drawing gun on police

Twenty-six year old Ronald Smith, an assistant mechanic of Hattieville, who allegedly pointed a firearm at a police officer, was charged with aggravated assault when he appeared on Wednesday before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stuart. Mr Smith pled not guilty to the charge. He was remanded into custody until January 8, 2015.

The incident occurred on October 25 at Hattieville. Police Constable Roman Cantun reported that while he was at Hattieville Police Station he heard a gunshot and when he went outside to investigate.

He saw Smith with a firearm. He said Smith ran into some bushes and he and some other police officers pursued Smith. PC Cantun said when he caught up with Smith, Smith pointed a firearm at him and he drew his service firearm and attempted to fire a shot, but his firearm misfired twice.

PC Cantun said another officer then drew his firearm and apprehended Ronald Smith, but by that time Smith had already gotten rid of his firearm.
