On Tuesday, a story broke about personal medical records and hospital biohazards which were discovered in an old abandoned hospital in San Ignacio According to Nancy Marin, upon scouting for tentative ghost locations for video shooting in San Ignacio, she came upon an old abandoned building in the centre of San Ignacio which used to be the old San Ignacio Hospital. In August of 2009, the Hospital was relocated, and one would think that the relocation would involve moving the equipment and records along with the staff to the new location. However, Marin’s discovery proves otherwise. The media approached the old site and saw for themselves what lay inside the premises of the old building- now a common site for drug addicts. Vials of blood- with patient labels still clearly visible, syringes and needles- both old and new, and private medical records were found carelessly stacked on the floors and shelves. The building is opened to its surrounding neighbors which include two schools, one of which is the Sacred Heart Primary school, and a recreational field often visited by kids. Dr. Misael Ramirez, chief of the staff at the San Ignacio Hospital, told the media that he is shocked at the finding and plans to inform his regional manager and address the issue as soon as possible.
