For the third day in a row people of Orange Walk Town and the neighbouring communities gathered in front of the court in Orange Walk to get a glimpse of the people in police custody who are believed to be responsible for the gruesome murder of Ramon Cervantes Sr. They began to gather from about 9:00 am on Wednesday and were still there after 4:30 pm when we left the area, still anxiously waiting to witness who are the people in custody. Because some 12 men have been detained, everyone we spoke to knew of at least one person they believed may have been involved. The men who police say will be charged today will walk a couple hundred feet from the police station pass the sub treasury and into the magistrates court. Throughout the entire day, the court yard could be seen bustling with activity; people young and old crowded the streets to get a glimpse of the suspects, police and investigative officers walked in and out of the station, the media houses lay waiting but yet there was no sign of the men in custody. Up to 5:25 Wednesday evening Magistrate Margaret Moody was still waiting in chambers for the men to be brought before her to have their charges read. Then after 3 consecutive days of waiting, the people of Orange Walk finally got a glimpse of the men being accused of the murder of well known business man Ramon Cervantes Jr. Late Wednesday evening the 3 men were paraded into the court room where charges of murder and unkept firearm and ammunition were read to them. Those men are all from Trial farm and they are Noe Gonzalez, Matteo Pott, and Angel Cardinez. Now the business of actually getting those charges to stick is another matter. In the meantime, the Orange Walk community held a candle light vigil in memory of Ramon Cervantes Sr. later Wednesday evening.
