Mexican national found dead; no foul play suspected

An elderly Mexican national was found dead on a feeder road in Progresso Village. According to reports, sometime around 8 p.m. on Saturday night, police officers visited the area in Progresso Village where they found the lifeless body of Isabelle Martinez. Martinez has been reportedly living in Progresso Village for the past 30 years while working as a cane farmer. According to ACP Myvette, Police have been informed by community members that Martinez was seen consuming alcohol throughout the entire day before his body was found.

ASP.  Joseph Myvette, OC of NCIB:  On Saturday also shortly before 8pm, police was called to an area in Progresso Village where they observed the apparent lifeless body of an elderly Hispanic male person later identified as Isabel Martinez, 66 year old Mexican Cane Cutter of Progresso Village who was seen lying on the side of the road apparently dead. The scene was processed , where the body was removed to the Corozal Community Hospital pending post-mortem result. Police investigation also revealed that the deceased, Mr. Martinez was seen within Progresso Village consuming alcohol throughout the day on Saturday, before he was later found in an off road around 7:30pm on the same night. No foul play is suspected but as is customary a post-mortem is scheduled to be held to determine the cause of the death. There were some scratches which could have been consistent with the fall, if he fell down but that will be determined by the post-mortem result.

The Mexican Embassy has been informed of Martinez’s death. Police do not suspect foul play.
