Minister Edmund Castro breaks his silence as he denies Taiwan misbehavior

Persistent rumors have surfaced against Belize Rural North area representative Edmond Castro since his return from Taiwan a month ago. Reports indicated that he was accused of misbehavior with a Taiwanese protocol officer and that the Embassy over there was involved. On Thursday we put the question forthrightly to him, and the area representative just as forcefully denied any knowledge of any complaint, or alleged misbehavior on his part.

“My brother, that’s pure foolishness. I heard about this foolishness when I got back home and I don’t believe in slandering anybody, so whoever is slandering me I don’t pay any mind to slander them back because that is not my style. I know my heart is clean. I know I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary – I didn’t do anything wrong. So, wherever that foolishness came from I can’t respond to something I don’t know about.”

“Were you aware that a female protocol officer had made a complaint of sexual harassment against you? No one brought that to your attention?”

Hon. Edmund Castro
“None at all. We would dealt with that then because Taiwan is a nation of cameras and they could run all kind of cameras. As a foreign minister or diplomat we are well guided with cameras.”

Edmund Castro says he was never told of any report made against him.

“No sir, I don’t know where that came from and if I may have said something that they took out of context – I told the PM that I am a big man – I could apologize to anybody if I say something and they took it out of context. I know my heart is clean.”

Jules Vasquez
“Was there any perhaps consensual relationship?”

Hon. Edmund Castro
“No such thing.”

Jules Vasquez
“So nothing went on with you?”

Hon. Edmund Castro
“None at all.”

According to the Area Representative, he does not believe in responding to slander and continues to look out for the interest of his constituents in Belize Rural North, who he says will decide on his record at the next election.

Hon. Edmund Castro
“I don’t know what if anybody said anything.  I don’t know.  Nobody told me anything.  I don’t know nothing ‘bout that.  People say things about me in the past, which everybody knows is not true.  I am not the only politician.  As long as you’re in politics, people will continue to try and slander you.  People will try to say things to gain political mileage, but once I stay pon the ground, I stay take care of my people like you see I do here today.  They are the people out here what matter.  I am here.  That is what is important, that I am here taking care of the people of Belize Rural North.”

Edmund Castro also denied any knowledge of Eric Chang’s affairs in Taiwan, saying he does not concern himself with other’s actions.
