There was a second road accident on the Southern Highway later that night, which claimed the life of a Dangriga resident. Police investigation has revealed that 49 year old Charles Norales was travelling on his motorbike, when he rear-ended into a parked bus. Correspondent Harry Arzu has the details of this fatal collision.
“A resident of this municipality has lost his life as a result of a traffic accident that occurred yesterday. The victim has been identified as 49 year old Charles Paul Noralez of Wagierali area. Initial police investigation revealed that Noralez was driving his L200 MEILUN motorcycle from Hopkins Village of the Stann Creek District towards Dangriga at about 6:30 p.m. Upon reaching mile 3 on teh Southern Highway, he collided into the back of a Hopkins passenger bus that was parked on the side of the road. As a consequence, Noralez suffered head and body injuries. He was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police here say that the passenger bus bearing license plates No. SC-90041 was parked at the said location due to mechanical problems. Furthermore, the report says that the area where the accident happened was very dark and the visibility was very poor. Reports indicate that Noralez was not wearing his helmet as he would normally do. His motorcycle is extensively damaged. His body now awaits a post mortem examination at the said medical facility’s morgue”.
PlusNews understands that the bus was parked on the highway since Sunday, and that there were no lights, cones or any sort of cautionary indication that the bus on the road. We attempted to contact Hopkins Police for further information, but their line was not in service.
