Police continue their investigation into a fatal traffic incident which occurred late on Friday evening. On the 25th of July, at about 5:45p.m. acting upon information received of a fatal traffic accident between miles 6 & 7 on the Phillip Goldson Highway, Ladyville Police visited the area where they saw a Gold colored Nissan Navarra, double cab pickup truck, parked on the extreme right side of the highway, with the front facing Belize City, and a black and silver Meilun Cyclone motor cycle directly in contact with the left side of the pickup truck, extensively damaged. Truck driver Leslie Nicholas, a business operation officer from Lords’ Bank, was driving the vehicle, property of the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), from Ladyville to Belize City when he met the motorcycle, traveling from the opposite direction, as it suddenly swerved into his lane. Motorcycle driver Duane Pelayo, 31, and his passenger Gerald Gillett, 48, were flung off the motorcycle and into the road, landing respectively 13 and 41 feet from the vehicles. Nicholas complained of pain to the neck and finger, but Mr Pelayo and Mr Gillett died almost instantly. Their bodies now await a post-mortem examination at the KHMH.
