In July of 2009, Miller, who was watching Ezekiel and his siblings while his mother was out, threw the child in the air, shook him around and threw a pint bottle at him. Miller claimed he had simply beaten the child because he was “giving trouble.”
Ezekiel was treated for stomach problems in Orange Walk Town but had to be rushed back to the Northern Regional Hospital almost immediately because his condition got worse.
He died of abdominal trauma due to bruises to the abdomen, bowel and intestines. A jury acquitted him of murder but convicted of manslaughter before Justice Herbert Lord.
