In 2011, Silva’s girlfriend was found murdered in his home in San Ignacio, having died from a massive blow to the head.
According to police, Silva was also at the home and had ingested pesticide in an apparent attempted suicide.
He was rushed to the hospital and later discharged to seek further medical attention abroad. He returned to the country in November of last year and was arraigned immediately.
As we said, today is his second appearance and this morning, his attorney spoke with our Cayo affiliate Kent Pandy on today’s adjournment.
“Mr. Silva was brought back to court today, given a further adjournment and it is our understanding that in fact, the investigation is just about complete. They have already done all the ground work and so; the file has been sent to the director of Public Prosecutions, and we are hoping that in fact, upon reading that file, it would be returned hastily, so that we could be move into the next stage of the process in this matter. A person charged with murder cannot be tried in a magistrate’s court; it must go to the Supreme Court. So, we are hoping that in fact, we are not far away from the process which starts that, which is called a ‘preliminary inquiry”.
We understand that Silva is to return to court in February.
