This morning in the Court of Appeal, defense counsel for the convicted Lavern “Anti-Christ” Longsworth, 40, Senior Counsel Godfrey Smith, was allowed more time to prepare his appeal on her behalf over her conviction for the murder of David White.
According to Smith, the services of a U.K. forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Gillian Mezey, has been acquired and she has interviewed Longsworth and other persons involved in the case and is in the process of preparing her report, which is to be submitted within the month.
Mr. White, 32, was allegedly doused in kerosene and set on fire by Longsworth, his common-law partner, at their Castle Street home on July 15, 2010 and later died from his injuries. Longsworth’s charge was upgraded to murder and after trial in 2012 she was surprisingly convicted by a jury of seven women and five men despite claiming self-defense.
Longsworth spoke extensively to members of the press immediately after the incident and those interviews were admitted in evidence at the trial. The appeal is expected to be heard in the June session of the Court of Appeal.
