And while the main battle was between Sabal and Mena at the polls, in the Village of Hope Creek things started heating up around 11 am especially after an alleged scuffle between Ramon Cervantes Jr. and Hon. Gaspar Vega. The two men are enemies both politically and now in court. There are several versions of what happened in Hope creek. On one hand Cervantes claims his opponent, Hon. Gaspar Vega “aggressed” him, While Vega said no such thing happened.
Ramon Cervantes Jr. – “Well, I was taking a lady to vote, escorting her and asking her for the vote and the Deputy Prime Minister stepped in and tried to push me away and I turned around to push him back and one of his thugs tried to punch me and I slipped two of his punches and then another guy, one of my guys came and punched him in the jaw and he fell, apparently sitting down and from there other things happened but I didn’t see everything that happened.”
Hon. Gaspar Vega, Deputy Prime Minister – “As far as I know, Munchi is not a voter in that area so there’s no reason for me to try and hold him, the people that I try to hold are the people that I’m trying to convince to vote for Papa Mena. So, if that’s enough clarification.”
Reporter – “What happened there though? There was a little scuffle there.”
Hon. Gaspar Vega – “I don’t know because when the person that we were taking to the polling station, I continued with the lady and her daughters; I don’t know what happened afterwards because that’s not my business. My business is to ensure that we take our people to vote, cast that vote for Papa Mena and after that, my job is finished.”
Then there was talk about a gun being pulled but both men say they did not see anything of that sort.
