No arrests yet in Toledo double murder

Police are still investigating the gruesome and disturbing murder of two teenage sisters who were severely chopped and killed in the Toledo district. As we reported,  19 year old Cresencia Oh and her 17 year old sister Josephina Oh,   were heading home from church on Sunday night when they were viciously attacked and killed. Their partially nude bodies were found on the side of the San Jose Road late that night, soaked in blood. They had been severely chopped, especially to their heads.  Our affiliates at PGTV in the Toledo District were able to travel up to the village and spoke with family members who, at the time of the interviews, were still visibly shaken.

Mario Oh – Brother of the Deceased
“I saw them yesterday.”

“Do you know what they were probably doing in San Jose?”

Mario Oh
“They went for a church [service].”

Reporter
“They went for church?”

Mario Oh
“With the Mennonite.”

Reporter
“Some people say they saw them walking out of the village, do you know why they did not come back with the Mennonite?”

Mario Oh
“Well, as they reached the Mennonite, and the church finished, they went – I got a brother living right there in San Jose. Now, when the church finished, they went and attended to my brother because they wanted to send something with them. And according to my sister – my other sister – she stayed in the church. She didn’t go with them, but according to them, they were waiting, but they didn’t arrive.”

Delila Oh – Sister of the Deceased “My father gone went all the way to Santa Cruz to meet them. When my next sisters came home, they asked my dad if they had already arrived. But, my dad told them that they hadn’t reached home yet.”

The double murder has shocked a normally peaceful community and today, the Toledo Alcaldes Association, representing 39 Mayan Communities, issued a press release saying that it , and we quote, “condemns the heinous crime that was committed against the young sisters….These horrible acts being committed against Maya women have shaken our peaceful communities to the core.”  The statement says that “ The Alcaldes call on the Police Department to ensure that a thorough investigation is done and that the person or persons who committed the crime is brought to justice.” Police are awaiting the results of a postmortem examination to determine if the sisters were sexually assaulted. In the meantime, the Toledo Alcaldes Association says it calls on persons who may have information to visit the Punta Gorda police or seek the guidance of the San Jose Alcaldes or TAA.
