Not Easy to Make Guadalupe Park Public Says Lands Commissioner

vlcsnap-2014-02-07-00h23m42s8Last week, a land dispute in Orange Walk Town was resolved amicably.  The parcel of land in question was the Guadalupe Park and the two lots beside it which also belonged to the community.

However, in 2012 the land was somehow privatized under the son of UDP standard bearer for Orange Walk East Elodio Aragon.

But as we had told you, in a press conference Elodio Aragon’s family promised to transfer the land to the government.

Today, that application was sent in to the Lands Department, and while the Orange Walk Town Council is confident that they will hold control of the park, the Lands Commissioner says it is not as easy as that.

Mr. Wilbert Vallejos- Lands Commissioner

vlcsnap-2014-02-07-00h21m18s195“The system of Registration that took place back then, was done at the General Registry, which was not housed within the Lands Department, but with the General Registry in Belize City.  It might be difficult for us to track it down. But as I said, you also need to look at the used that it is being given now.  It is not something that it is written in stone and the Ministry said, well, we are going to give it to the National or to the Orange Walk Town Council.  It has too be looked at it holistically, in my opinion”.

We thank our colleagues at Krem news for that clip.
