One of three plead guilty for lobster in closed season

The lobster season is closed from February to June, but three fishermen took a chance and one of them wound up having to pay for catching the crustacean out of season. A Belize Coast Guard patrol near Crayfish Caye on Turneffe Atoll busted 53 year old George Marin; 24 year old Angel Tun; and 30 year old Raymond Petzold with 243 lobsters in the closed season. After being read the charge before Magistrate Deborah Rogers they each pleaded not guilty and were offered bail; however Marin told the court that they only had the lobsters when Fisheries personnel threatened to destroy the traps and their catch. As the group were being brought to process bail, Petzold apparently changed his mind and decided to plead guilty; Fisheries Prosecutor, Hampton Gamboa, then withdrew the charges from Marin and Tun.    For the offense, Magistrate Rogers imposed a 500-dollar fine and an additional $20 for each lobster which total to $4,860.00, and an overall total of $5,366 to be paid by June 30, 2016; in default, eight months imprisonment.vlcsnap-2016-02-22-11h28m37s889 vlcsnap-2016-02-22-11h28m32s947 vlcsnap-2016-02-22-11h28m28s493
