Last night, we told you about a pageant for transvestite males that has been stirring controversy in the north. Pastors and other concerned citizens in Orange Walk are contesting the Ms. Gay Goddess Pageant, which sees male contestants from across the country. The show was slated for June 29th, but today, a spokesperson for the event has announced that the show has been postponed. He says this decision was made due to the backlash from the Evangelical community. However, he did say that a new date will be set for the event and possibly a venue change.
Yesterday, when we spoke with President of BelizeCan Patrick Menzies, he noted that the alliance of Evangelical pastors and leaders in the north will be submitting a letter to the town’s Mayor, voicing their objection to the pageant. He added that a preliminary meeting with Mayor Bernard was held on Tuesday, where the Mayor stated that he will in no way support the pageant. But Menzies says, if nothing becomes of their written protest, they will take to the streets and hold a demonstration at the venue on June 21st. We will inform our viewers of the outcome of the alliance’s protest. We note that the Facebook page for the Ms. Gay Goddess Pageant has been taken down.
