Organisations call for emphasis on social and mental health issues

The drowning death of the Teul infants allegedly committed by their mother, who has since been diagnosed with chronic clinical depression, has garnered much public awareness to mental health illnesses. Prompting organizations such as the Special Envoy for Women and Children as well as the PUP and the NCFC to call for a heighten concentration on social and mental health issues. And the Ministry of Health today issued a list of clinics which provide mental health services through the Ministry. Those clinics are as follows: In San Ignacio – The San Ignacio Hospital (804-3129); in Belmopan – The Western Regional Hospital (822-2263 EXT. 81339); the Punta Gorda Hospital in Punta Gorda (722-2161) and the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga (522-3832). Persons in Corozal can obtain services at the Corozal Community Hospital (422-2076), the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk (302-2072) and lastly, in Belize City – The Cleopatra White Health Center (223-0131) and the Port Loyola Health Center (227-5354).
