Over 100 LBS of Weed confiscated after pursuit

Last night, a high speed pursuit led to the apprehension of 19 year old Maynor Leonel Portillo, and 47,174grams of Cannabis, that’s more than 100 pounds of marijuana. Wednesday night , 29th of June, a checkpoint was being conducted at mile 54 on the George Price Highway when a small Toyota Car sped past the checkpoint heading towards Belmopan. The team pursued the vehicle and eventually caught up with it at an old logging trail heading east of the settlement of Arizona in Teakettle. The occupant jumped out and attempted to run but was quickly apprehended and taken to the car where 2 plastic sacks of cannabis were found, both amounting to 104 lbs or 47,174 grams of Cannabis. “Sometime after 9:00pm one of our specialist units was at a check point at Mile 54 on the George Price Highway when a car with Sanvlcsnap-2016-07-01-16h18m31s692 Ignacio License Plate approach the check point. The car did not stop and the officer’s pursuit the car into Teakettle. The pursuit went on for about 20 minutes and we were able to capture the person that we now identify as Minor Portillo of Santa Elena. In the vehicle we found two large sacks containing over 100 pounds of Marijuana. The person was immediately brought in to the Belmopan Police Station where he was arrested and will be taken into court today.”

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 19 year old Maynor Leonel Portillo, a taxi driver of Santa Elena Town. He was arrested and charged for “Drug Trafficking.
