Police are investigating a pair of separate, non-fatal shooting incidents in Belize City on Sunday morning which happened only minutes apart in different areas of Southside. In the first, Police are seeking a man identified as Trevor Guy for shooting two Belize City men; who are now hospitalized at the KHMH. Yesterday morning, Belize City Police visited the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital, Emergency Room where they saw 27 year old Herman Ramsey, a fisherman of Belize City; suffering from gunshot injuries to the left arm and left side of the chest. Also in the emergency room was 35 year old Clive Arnold, a Stevedore of Belize City; suffering from a gunshot wound to the right upper thigh. Senior Superintendent Chester Williams, Officer Commanding Eastern Division South, told the press this morning that the shooting is a result of internal family wrangling.
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C Eastern Division South: Yes that incident took some place after 6 the Sunday Morning. Mr. Ramsey and Mr. Arnold were in the company of another male person and apparently there was a dispute between the trio, and dispute resulted in one of them, Trevor Guy, who actually took out a firearm and fired shots at both persons. They received varying degree of injuries, and are currently admitted at the hospital in a stable condition. We are currently pursuing Mr. Guy and I will say that that incident is not gang related. These people are friends, family members, and when things like that occur it is not things that the police can do anything to prevent because we could never know what is brewing between people who are friends or who are families so the matter is being investigated by police at this time.
Reporter: Sir, are any of the victims pressing charges against the relative Mr. Guy?
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C Eastern Division South: Well that will be a matter for them to decide, we have obtained statements from 1 of the victim, and based on that statement and when Mr. Guy is apprehended he will be charged and taken before the court for attempted murder, so if later on down the road they choose to do otherwise, that it between them and the court, but we will pressing forward with the charges.
Meanwhile, Police have detained one male and are seeking another in connection with a “miss and catch” shooting early yesterday morning in an area near Pitter Street and Antelope Extension in the Collet Division in Belize City. The victim has been identified as one Liston Myers. Senior Superintendent Chester Williams, Officer Commanding Eastern Division South provided the details.
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C Eastern Division South: In relation to the matter with Mr. Myers, that incident took place yesterday morning around 7am and it actually took place on Antelope St Extens. and not orange street. Mr. Myer’s was walking in that area with the company of another male person when they were shot at by 2 male persons. One of whom is already in our custody.
Reporter: Talk to us about where he got injured etcetera.
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C Eastern Division South: He got shot on the body. He is currently on the hospital in a stable condition.
Reporter: Sir any motive behind this shooting?
Reporter: Is that person known to police as being affiliated with any gang? Why would someone want to target that person?
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C Eastern Division South: The person yes is known to police but I will not go into too much details in terms of saying who the person is, but yes the person who he was with is known to the police.
Reporter: Sir you said that you have one person in custody and you’re looking for a second person. Are those persons gang affiliates and known to the police as well?
Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, O.C Eastern Division South: Yes. The person we have in custody, he is a new comer to these types of incidents and yes the other person who we’re looking for is known to police in being involved in gang activities.
