The Hon. Patrick Faber was sworn in as the new Deputy Prime Minister of Belize by the Governor General of Belize H.E. Sir Colville Young at the Belize House in the City of Belmopan today, Tuesday June 7, 2016. The Minister of Education was elected as the new first Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic party in a hotly contested election between himself and the Minister of National Security Hon. John Saldivar. The new Deputy Prime Minister pledged his support to the Prime Minister of Belize, the Governor General and other leaders of the country as he works with them in the continuing development of Belize.
Hon. Patrick Faber, sworn in as New Deputy Prime Minister: I, Patrick Faber, do swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Belize and will uphold the constitution and the law and that I will conscientiously, impartially and to the best of my ability discharge my duties as a minister of the government and do right to all manner of people without fear or favor, affection or ill-will so help me God. I want to thank you all with this journey that will be a path to the future. I’m elated of course to first of all have been made the 1st Deputy Party Leader for our beloved United Democratic Part y, that was last Sunday, and today to be made the Deputy Prime Minister of Belize. I pledge my support to of course the Prime Minister, Excellency the governor general and all who lead this country that I will do my best to help in the execution of the duties and to make sure that Belize is going on that path to the future, path to better development and to make sure that we have a good country for all of us.
Faber is succeeding the outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Gaspar Vega who has declared his intention to retire from the political field at the end of his term as area representative. Present at the swearing in ceremony today were the new DPM’s family, friends and supporters along with members of the Cabinet and other government officials.
