41 year old Peter King Contreras pleaded guilty to strangling his 50 year old mother-in-law to death with a rope. The murder happened 12 days before Christmas of 2010. According to police, on that day, 50 year old Argentina Garcia went to a restaurant owned and operated by Contreras. The restaurant was situated along the Phillip Goldson Airport main road with Ladyville Village. Garcia had gone to restaurant to see her daughter, Leslie Garcia, who at the time was the common-law-wife of Contreras. Contreras offered Garcia a ride in his vehicleand they got into an argument in the vehicle. According to Contreras’ caution statement, he then punched Garcia twice in her face. A struggle ensued where Garcia made attempt to exit the vehicle but that’s when Contreras used a rope and pulled her back into the vehicle and choked her to death. After strangling his mother-in-law, Contreras then drove around the Ladyville area all afternoon with the body of Garcia in his car trunk. That afternoon, police on mobile patrol stopped to do a regular check and when Contreras couldn’t provide his driver’s license, they did a search of the vehicle and found the woman’s body. The trial for that murder was to start today, but Contreras chose not to waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter because he said she provoked him into an argument and he did not mean to kill her. The DPP’s office accepted his plea of manslaughter. Justice Adolph Lucas has deferred sentencing upon Contreras for next week Tuesday, June 18.
