Poetry workshop at St. Johns

Students from Oklahoma State University under the leadership of Dr. Jen Sanders, along with Peacework, are conducting their annual visit to St. John’s Anglican Primary School in Belize City. For the third year running, they are practicing their skills in literacy on the students of the school, as well as teaching poetry and printmaking, according to Peacework’s field director Greg Potter. Principal of St. John’s Ursula Griffith details the importance of the assistance being given to the school. According to Griffith the school aims to raise the overall reading rate and literacy level of students, but she tells us that there is little difference between the U.S. and Belize in terms of teaching material and concepts. So with part one of the Primary School Examination (PSE) out of the way, we asked two long-time members of the program and soon-to-be graduates of St. John’s about their experiences: vlcsnap-2016-03-17-09h31m59s715 vlcsnap-2016-03-17-09h31m57s449 vlcsnap-2016-03-17-09h31m53s580 vlcsnap-2016-03-17-09h31m49s928
