The Police then went into the water by getting a boat.  The body was retrieved and it was later identified to be that of P.C. 886, Antonio Chan.

The senior man had some kind words for his departed colleague:

Joseph Myvettee – Senior Superintendent, Corozal:
vlcsnap-2013-03-26-20h10m28s63I must say that he is a good worker.  He has worked in several units.  Whenever he’s working, he does take his work seriously.  He’s a well mannerly officer, and has complied with most of the rules whilst he’s at work.

A post mortem examination was conducted on Chan’s body, where the cause of death was deemed as Asphyxia due to drowning. Chan had been working in the department off and on for some time, the latest detachment lasting 3 ½ years.
