Police Officer Arraigned for Extortion

bribing handsLast week we told you of reports of police extortion from the Cayo District in relation to a traffic offense.  Police have issued an official statement on the issue.

The alleged extortion occurred on Tuesday February 18th when police stopped a vehicle with expired insurance.  The officers allegedly asked the driver for $300 to avoid charges San Ignacio Courtand the money was given to the officer.

As a result of the statements given to police, a group identification parade was conducted and police constable Henry Nunez was formally arrested and charged for the crime of Extortion.

On Friday, February 21st , P.C. Nunez was arraigned at the San Ignacio Magistrate court where he pled not guilty and was offered bail of $2,000.00.  He met bail and his case was adjourned.
