Yesterday, we reported on the fatal traffic accident that occurred near Busman Arnold Bridge located on mile 60 on George Price Highway, Cayo District. Three persons died at the scene of the accident and a fourth person died as a result later on. In that accident, a taxi collided head on into a bus. All persons who died were in the taxi.
Police have issued a press release today naming the victims of the accident. Inside the car were three Caucasian females and the driver of the car who died during the impact. The female passengers , 24 year old Angela Bugeja Maltese and 25 year old Ioanna Thomopoulou Hellenic, both students, were taken out of the car apparently dead . The third female, 24 year old Molly Hude, an American student was rushed to Western Regional Hospital but died about 11:42am while undergoing treatment. According to police, it was the driver of the taxi, 64 year old Eliseo Chan , who lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run to the left side of the highway and collide into the bus. All the females were students who arrived in the country of Belize on 4th June, 2013 to conduct their Masters Research with the Belize Valley Archeology Project and were doing it at the Cahal Pech site. They were on their way to the Philip Goldson Airport at the time of the accident.
