Possible financial repercussions for UN vote against Israel?

Yesterday, we told you of National Evangelical Association of Belize’s press release, expressing disappointment in Government’s vote at the United Nations against Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The U.S. UN representative had also expressed disappointment in all the countries who voted against US moving its Embassy to Jerusalem and indicated that there would be financial consequences for the UN and for the countries who voted “no”. Today, PM Barrow was asked if he was concerned about any possible repercussions.vlcsnap-2018-01-09-11h02m58s152 vlcsnap-2013-11-11-11h52m21s145

Prime Minister Dean Barrow;

I hope not. I hope that the retribution, the consequence is has already been signaled a lessening of the US contributions to the UN to the institution. I think in terms of their contributions they are in the main in relation to security matters in which they have as much of a vested interest as we do. So I am hoping that, that sort of thing won’t suffer. Again I should add that we tried to make plain that for us it wasn’t a matter of trying to tweak the tail of the elephant or anything of the sort, we are not trying to play ‘bad man’ . It rarely was a vote rooted in history of the resolution at the UN and in what we feel was the correct position to adopt. We completely respect the US determination to go otherwise and we had thought that it wouldn’t be too much to ask them to respect ours; but there it is.
