Queen of the Bay to be selected on Saturday

The true harbinger of the September Celebrations in Belize City is the annual selection of a Queen of the Bay. It has been described as living history – 67 unbroken years of an “emblem of freedom,” as the classic theme song written by Eloise Humes describes her. Current queen Yadira Argueta from Pomona, Stann Creek District will hand over her crown to one of seven young women whom you are about to be introduced to.

PLUS News spoke with Yadira Argueta about her reign.

vlcsnap-2013-08-30-12h17m33s75Yadira Argueta:

I had an amazing and terrific year.  I got to attend a lot of events.  I made appearances as guest speaker at September celebrations in the south. Also I was fortunate enough to travel to New York, thanks to the Queen of the Bay Committee in New York for inviting me to attend their pageant.

One element missing from Saturday’s event at the Bliss will be the talent section, which due to time constraints was held on August 17 but still counts. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the Bliss Center and the winner will be crowned by tradition on September 10.
