Liquor bars in residential areas have always caused problems between the operators of those establishments and the residents of the neighborhood who have to endure the sounds, sights, and smells. One bar presently in that predicament is Chan’s Restaurant and bar which has been operating in the San Martin Area of Belmopan for a little bit over a year now. Residents of the area say they have had enough as the establishment is allegedly opened all hours of the night, playing loud music that interferes with the peace and tranquility that most home owners long for . One resident of the area, Mario Orellana, who lives right across from the establishment, tells us that the music that is being played late at night is affecting not only him, but his school aged children as well. Orellana says that he wrote a letter to City Council stating his displeasure with the bar and asked if the city council could intervene. That letter was written in November of last year, and he says they told him he was too late as the bar’s license had just recently been renewed and he would have to wait until this year, 2016 until anything could be done. Orellana says that he may be the only one making official complaints right now because the other residents who live right around the establishment are associated with the business. Plus news will be checking with Belmopan City Council to see what if anything can be done for those persons affected by noisy bars in their neighborhoods.
