Rural Development Officer Encounters Death on Vehicle Crash

The incident occurred around 4:55 in the evening around Mile 46 and Mile 47 on the George Price Highway.

41 year old Efrain Cowo was one of four persons travelling toward Belmopan in a Government owed white Isuzu D-Max, driven at the time by 40 year old Ernest Banner with passengers  25 year old Genee Neal, 29 year old Kendra Arnold and Cowo,  Travelling in the opposite direction was a green explorer carrying 22 Adrian Flores Jr. and 19 year old Shavone Williams, and driver 45 year old Bert Ramos,  en route to Belize City.  According to a witness, Ramos veered off his course to avoid a pothole and that’s when the vehicles collided.  All passengers of both vehicles were injured. Efrain Cowo, a Toledo resident, suffered injuries to the head and body and passed away while undergoing treatment at the Western Regional Hospital.  He and the persons in the vehicle were returning from a workshop hosted by the Department of Rural Development in Belize City. According to Assistant Superintendent of the Belmopan Police Formation, Sinquest Martinez, four other individuals have since been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
