Seniors Injured in Traffic Collision

There was a traffic accident on Monday evening at around 4:00 pm in front of the Agriculture and Trade Show Grounds in Belmopan. The accident  left two seniors in the hospital and another seeking treatment at a private hospital. The accident involved a white Saturn Vue and a black Mahindra pickup.

According to reports, the white Saturn, driven at the time by 52 year old resident of Belize City Oscar Ascencio, was travelling from vlcsnap-2015-01-07-07h26m11s178vlcsnap-2015-01-07-07h26m28s80a north to South direction on the Humming bird highway heading into Belmopan. When it reached mile 1 on the Highway, it collided into a black Mahindra pickup, driven at the time by 30 year old Belizean driver of Duck Run Village, Cayo District, Ermelindo Garrido, who was travelling in the opposite direction en route to Belize City.

Travelling with Oscar Asencio inside the white Saturn were three other persons; his wife 59 year old Neredia De Paz; 72 year old Maria Elena Heredia, who received a cut to the forehead; and 83 year old Rudolfo Heredia, who complained of chest pain, all of Belize City addresses.

vlcsnap-2015-01-07-07h26m36s153Reports are that the airbags of the black Mahindra did not deploy. As a result, Ermelindo Garrido received a large cut wound to the face, and was bleeding profusely. He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital but later transferred to a private clinic.

Meanwhile, 72 year old Maria Heredia and 83 year old Rudolfo Heredia remain enlisted at the Western Regional Hospital in stable conditions.
