Police have arrested and charged seven persons in connection with a Friday afternoon attempted robbery at the Fabers Road Snack Shop in Belize City.
The Gang Suppression Unit (GSU), acting on a tip received earlier in the day, got a man to the scene on time to engage the would-be robbers and capture one of them; that man is Constable Barrington Flowers, brother of GSU Commander Inspector Mark Flowers. Subsequent searches of the area led to the capture of two other persons. on Monday 21 year old Christian Robateau of Rio Bravo Crescent, 21 year old Kevin Bodden of Lavender Street and 29 year old Jarreth Crawford of Racoon Street Extension were charged for robbery and harm.
Christian Robateau pleaded guilty to the charges and will be sentenced when the case returns in October. Robateau was additionally charged with handling stolen goods as well as Jarreth Crawford, who was also read a charge of attempted murder for the attack on P.C. Barrington Flowers. $9,284 in goods was stolen, most of which was recovered.
23 year old Seth Jones of Jaguar Avenue was charged with Abetment to Commit Robbery and pleaded not guilty. His bail was set at $3,000 and he was represented by Sharon Pitts-Robateau. His case was adjourned until October 23.
Meanwhile, three more persons were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. 25 year old Kareem Smith of Holy Emmanuel Street, 20 year old John Longsworth of Rio Bravo Crescent and 18 year old Anis Bowen of Ladyville were charged and set bail of $3,000. Both Smith and Longsworth had to put up $2,500 of that bail in cash and are yet to meet it; Bowen has met bail. All appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith.
