Shane Budran Acquitted of Keeping an Unlicensed Firearm

vlcsnap-2014-02-26-09h23m57s10936-year-old Shane Budran of Wagner’s Lane, Belize City, was acquitted of a charge of keeping an unlicensed firearm on Tuesday morning in the Magistrate’s Court.

Magistrate Dale Cayetano upheld a no-case submission from Mr. Budran’s attorney, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, who told the court that the sole prosecution witness and the man who conducted the search on Shane Budran, at a property on Wagner’s Lane near South Street in December of 2012, had failed to inform fellow officers or the court that Mr. Budran had accused him of planting 4.38 rounds of ammunition in his pants pocket.

PoliceThe constable told the court that as part of an operation between Wagner’s Lane and Berkeley Street he searched Mr. Shane Budran after initially patting him down and recovered the ammunition and a cell phone from his pants pocket.

The bullets were admitted in evidence but there were no other witnesses to corroborate his story and Mr. Budran did not testify.

The arresting officer was reportedly accompanied by Belize Defense Force officers and not Police during the search.
