Yesterday we told you about the murder of 24 year old Darwin Velasquez. Details were still sketchy at news time yesterday but today police issued a report on the incident. The shooting happened shortly after one o’clock at the corner of Plues and Bishop streets. Darwin Dwayne Simon Velasquez, a Belizean Fisherman of Belize City, was shot to the lower side of his back. Velasquez was walking on George Street with a female companion when they were approached from behind by a male person who was armed with a firearm. A struggle ensued betweenVelasquez and the male person. Velasquez escaped and ran towards the direction of Plues Street, but he was followed by the male person who fired several shots at him causing him to collapse inside a bike shop on Plues Street. The body of Darwin Dwayne Simon Velasquez was transported to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. As we told you yesterday, Velasquez had just arrived on mainland from the Cayes where we understand he had been detained by police for questioning in the Paul Jex murder a couple days before. Police are investigating.
