On August 4th, 2018 in the latter part of the day, TIDE says it was informed that there was an oil-like substance seen in the Barracuda Range area of the Port Honduras Marine Reserve (PHMR). The incident report was made to TIDE by a concerned tour-guide of Punta Gorda. The rangers at PHMR quickly responded to the call, trying to find the exact location of the oil spill, but to no avail. On Tuesday, another group from TIDE’s team went out to the area to try to determine the cause of the small oil spill that the steward encountered. After a long search, it was discovered to be a metal 55-gallon drum, which at the time was filled almost entirely with water and small remnants of oil. TIDE says it encourages resource users to be good stewards of the area and to continue sharing information to achieve best management results.
