On Wednesday Speednet Communications Ltd. filed an application for an injunction against Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) in the Supreme Court of Belize.
The application for an injunction became necessary after BTL served Speednet with a notice of termination of service via certain links effective Friday, November 14, 2014.
According to Speednet, owners of SMART, this move could leave almost 7,000 Smart customers in the Toledo District without access to voice and data services. Speednet says it terminated its service with its previous provider and switched its communications link in Toledo to BTL on July 27. They claim that only five weeks later, Telemedia sent them a notice of service termination effective November 14, 2014.
Speednet expects to complete its own network in Toledo in the next few months but claims that they have written to the Public Utilities Commission which has said that it is not in a position to intervene.
