Stephen Palacio charged for manslaughter by negligence

vlcsnap-2013-06-21-18h24m16s55Four years after a fatal traffic accident, a Belize City man has been criminally charged. Stephen Palacio was arraigned today before the Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer and was read 9 indictable offenses. Those include one count of manslaughter by negligence in the fatal traffic accident that caused the death of Jose Garcia on May 29, 2009, one count of causing death by careless conduct, one count of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, one count of using motor vehicle not covered by third party risk insurance, one count of using unlicensed motor vehicle, one count of failure to report an accident, one count of taking a motor vehicle without the consent of owner or lawful authority and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.  In court, no plea taken since the matters are being dealt with in indictment.   His attorney though, Bryan Neal, argued that this is the second time that the charges were levied against his client.  Back in 2010, the prosecutor in the case had withdrawn the matter for want of prosecution and Palacio was set free.  Today he was granted bail in the sum of $6,000 plus two sureties of $3,000 each which he met.  His next court date is set for July 29, 2013.
