A bus conductor got robbed at the old Novelo’s Bus Terminal on West Collet Canal on Tuesday, and today a junior college student was accused of the crime. 35 year old Elroy Hemmans Junior, student and part-time accountant, pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbery before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. Samir Martinez told police that whilst at the Novelo’s Terminal Parking Lot, he was approached by a Creole male person who threw a rock at him from behind that caught him in the back of the head and that caused him to fall to the ground. Martinez contends that as he fell he lost his conductor’s purse bag and his attacker, whom he identified as Hemmans, ran off with it only to be caught by police on Johnson Street. The amount of money stolen was 300 dollars. But Hemmans claims he had no argument with the conductor, only with a young man on the bus who began to insult him and his girlfriend and the conductor and driver came after him with a broom, causing him to flee for his life. Hemmans was unable to meet bail of 3 thousand dollars and returns to court on September 13, 2016.
