Police is conducting their investigation they went there a part of my staff and Belize City staff went to help the San Pedro police with their investigation .We have been able to interview several persons and their statements have been recorded. I know that we are looking for a suspect ,and I understand that he was detained as early as 2 or 3 o’clock this morning  so we are waiting to see what further actions can be taken into this case . We have several witnesses that are helping us conduct this investigation

As has been reported, Cowo was one of those persons injured when two police officers fired indiscriminately into a crowd on the island of San Pedro last year. The matter was to go to trial last week Wednesday, however, the police prosecutor did not show up for the case and so the judge threw the matter out. Cowo had gone to the media to complain about what he described as injustice and was reportedly looking into finding other legal recourse. A week later, he was killed. Police say that there is no evidence that any police officer had any involvement in Cowo’s murder.

The investigation at this moment is not directing us to any police involvement so far. We are looking at all the angle that are being mentioned at this moment.

The police was also asked if there is any investigation into why the prosecutor did not show up for the case.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, NCIB

I know that the family had a case pending, and it was dismissed at the San Pedro magistrate court I know that the police from Belize City had already interviewed the victim and a statement was recorded from him and that they were looking into that matter, however it was explained yesterday it is An internal matter it’s a disciplinary matter that the Police Department will be conducting with the those persons that were involve .In regards to the dismissal of the case at the court it is an internal investigation that the police is pursuing.

The two cops who were caught on video shooting into the ground and subsequently injuring San Pedro residents, are still on interdiction.//[end]
