Three arrested for San Pedro shooting and robbery

Last week Thursday we told you of the shooting and robbery of retired American national Cliff Kirk. The 60 year old  lives at a remote home at10 and a half miles north of San Pedro Town. On Thursday morning at around 11:30,  Kirk was walking down the stairs of his secluded home when four masked men attacked him a s he was going down the

stairs of his house. One of the men shot him in the head and then went into the house and stole a 9 mm pistol, a shotgun, and a brief case with an undisclosed amount of cash. The men then used Kirk’s jet ski to escape. Police have since arrested three persons, Nigel Williams, Christian Espat, and a 15 year old minor and charged them for attempted murder and aggravated burglary among other charges. ASP Alejandro Cowo, Head of N.C.I.B.: During the weekend, police arrested and charged three persons in regard to this incident. During the investigation several persons were detained whereby out of the eight persons that were detained, three were arrested and charged, two adults and a minor. The two adults charged are Nigel Williams, a 25 year old Belizean fisherman of San Mateo area, Christian Espat, a 22 year old Belizean of San Pejito area and a minor. They were charged for robbery, attempted murder, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, use of deadly means of arm and dangerous arm. With the condition of Mr. Cliff, he was airlifted to the US and he is receiving medical treatments there.

Police also told us what led to the arrests.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Head of N.C.I.B.: Based on investigations conducted, these persons were seen earlier in the area and as a result police apprehended them shortly after the time of the incidence. None of the items reported stolen have been recovered.


Police were also asked about allegations being made by family members of the accused who say that the men were beaten by police. ASP Alejandro Cowo responded.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Head of N.C.I.B.: Well, I cannot tell you if they were brutalized, but I know that they were in police custody and nobody made any complain to the police up till now that they were beaten nor has any family member mentioned that to the police.

Kirk is a US army veteran and his wife is a retired nurse. According to the San Pedro Sun, they are long-time San Pedro residents
