Traffic Accident on Boom Road

vlcsnap-2014-03-06-19h09m48s38A traffic accident occurred yesterday just before noon on the Burrel Boom Road, at the junction where the bridge meets the cutoff to the village.

The accident involved a blue van carrying tourists and a blue Chevy S-10 pickup truck which contained a family from Guinea Grass Village in  Orange Walk.

According to reports we received, Jarisha Trapp from Ladyville, was driving the blue van which contained the tourists. She exited the junction on to the Burrel Boom road and turned left towards ladyville just at the time when the pickup truck driven by Silvery Hernandez came off the bridge heading in the direction of Hattieville.

vlcsnap-2014-03-06-19h09m29s223According to Silvery Hernandez, upon seeing the van crossing his lane, he blew his horn and tried to avoid the van, but he was unable to, and plowed head on into the side of the van.

Hernandez’s family, including his wife, sister-in-law and two children were in the pickup truck along with him. While the children escaped with only cuts and bruises, Hernandez complained of pain to his ankle which was crushed under the brakes on impact.

His wife complained of head and back pain. In the van, one of the tourists was seen with blood coming from his head but was able to walk unaided to the ambulance. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
