Tonight, we report on two fatal road accidents. The first accident occurred shortly before 4:30 and claimed the life of three year old Jahston Terry and injured his nine year old brother Jaheem Terry. Jahston and Jaheem were waiting for a bus in front of a Belizean Chinese Restaurant on Cemetery Road, when the driver of a white Ford Van reportedly lost control of the vehicle and drove over the side walk, where they were standing, hitting both brothers.
Baby Jahston died on the spot, while Jaheem was wounded to his left ankle. The vehicle came to a stop about a hundred feet away from the three year old’s body. It’s a story that has sent shockwaves throughout the country and ravaged a Hattieville family. We spoke with the grieving mother of the boys today.
I was at work about 4:30 and I got a call from an unknown number. The person called and told me, “Ms. come quick, because something happen to your son.” I was like, “Tell me what happen, what happen?” And the person hung up. My friend Ms. Jackie Franklin, called back the number and the person explained to her that an accident happened at Cemetery Road involving my two kids; one dead and one got hurt. I can just remember that I passed out on my work floor in tears crying. I had my cousin with me and she helped me out so she can probably relate you what happen on the scene because, I didn’t go on the scene. The feeling, I don’t know how to say I feel. I feel hurt, I feel mad. I wish I could just kill that driver, sorry to say it like, but that is how I personally feel. Because what is he doing on the sidewalk, my kids were on the sidewalk, it’s not like they were playing on the street or anything. So, I just wish that they charge him to the fullest, every single charge that they can charge him. It can’t bring back my baby, but he doesn’t know what me and family are going through right now.
The mother also told us that the older brother is traumatized and gave us the child’s account of what happened.
My older son Jaheem Terry, he explained to me that they were walking, waiting for the bus and they were walking backwards – the way how the vehicle came. He had the baby held tight in his hands and it happened so quick that the vehicle just grab the baby away and he couldn’t do anything. People said that he drop down and was crying for help. I know that he has a broken ankle. That much I can say. My cousin was on the scene and she can explain exactly what she saw. I haven’t seen my baby yet. I haven’t seen his face or anything. I didn’t see him the morgue. My sister-in-law had to do it, because I couldn’t bear to see my little boy on that table. The last time I saw my baby was yesterday, about 8:10, before I took him to school. He ran to me and told me “Mommy, I love you.” I hugged him, I kissed him. He asked me to please bring a Spiderman truck for him that he wants for his Christmas gift and bring to school for him. That was the last time I saw my baby. I said “Bye baby, later, mommy loves you.” Up to now I haven’t seen my baby.
Now all Keisha Terry wants is justice.
I just want justice for this man who knocked my baby and hurt my other son and left him traumatize. Just come and face the family. I don’t even know if I want to see him, but at least let us hear something from him or his family or someone. We were made to understand that the vehicle was working properly, it’s a lot of things. I really don’t know what to say. I don’t want to speculate.
Meanwhile, other family members say they would like to see the City council take extra measures in trying to keep pedestrians safe.
For the entire public and for other people. We would like to ask the drivers – Belize is a small place and we all know that Pound Yard is a busy place. A lot of school kids go out there. Drivers have no consideration. People go back and forth across the street. Drivers keep flying from the stadium all the way to the bridge. We ask you the drivers, please be cautious when you go in that area. We have bus stops there and we have our kids there. Please, just be careful, slow down. You can’t be in that much of a hurry. It’s our kids.
We would like to ask the City Council, the Government. They know that a park is there and that is always a busy place. We are asking for them to put two pedestrian ramps. One at the beginning and the end of the park. Kids are always at that park and they are always crossing the street.

Ma’am can you please describe for us the best you can what you found on the scene yesterday?
Misty Usher, Cousin to Keisha Terry
It wasn’t anything nice. It was the worst site I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen something like that before.

Ma’am, we were made to understand that the public was outraged.
