After three days of intensive investigation into the senseless murder of 21-year-old Dennis Rajiv Gonguez, police are today able to charge a well-known Belize City youth for murder. He has been identified as 19-year-old Travis Tyler Navarro. This evening, at around 2:30 p.m., Navarro was swiftly taken into Court #1 where he appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith to be read a single charge of murder. Navarro was unrepresented and no plea was taken from him. He was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until June 26, 2013, his next court date.
21-year-old Dennis Rajiv Gonguez was shot on Monday evening, sometime around 5:50 on North Front Street. Gonguez had been shot at multiple times but one of those bullets made its mark in his body killing him almost instantly. Reports are that the lone gunman was hiding across from the terminal in the area of St. Mary’s Church and ran over and fired the shots. Dennis Rajiv Gonguez was the son of Meteorologist, Dennis Gonguez. Since the murder, police retrieved footage from a surveillance camera that was affixed to the San Pedro Water taxi entrance.
