ACP Chester Williams, Police Professional Standards Branch: Sometime after 1 am this morning Plancencia Police responded to information of a road traffic accident on Placencia Road. Upon arrival, they was a dump truck type of vehicle parked on the road side and they also saw two separate motorcycles and two individuals. One of the individuals appeared to have been motionless, they were both taken to the Southern Regional Hospital where on arrival both were pronounced to be dead. From investigations, we had learnt that the truck may have experienced some mechanical problems and a tyre issue, causing the driver of the vehicle to have parked the vehicle by the highway without leaving any indication to oncoming motorists that the vehicle was there. And the two cyclists were riding their motor cycle, when they ran into the rear of the said vehicle resulting in their injury and subsequent death. The police are currently preparing charges for the driver of that vehicle and he is being charged for causing death by careless conduct.
20 year old Alex Duncan died on the spot and 28 year old Mauricio Palma succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Edwin Rene Montoya was formally arrested and charged with two counts of Causing Death by Careless Conduct.
