Two Guatemalan Nationals, 56-year-old Luis Diaz Alballeros and 51-year-old Francisco Torres Sucup, have been charged by Belizean authorities for the offenses of “kept firearm without a gun license”, “kept ammunition without a gun license” and “aggravated assault”. The charges are in connection to an incident south of the Chiquibul on Thursday March 3 where a team of B.D.F and FCD Rangers were conducting patrols near the Belize-Guatemala boarder and came across a marijuana plantation. Shots were fired from a thatched shed oteh plantation and the BDF returned fire, hitting Francisco Torres Sucup with a single gunshot below his left knee. Police say they detained both men and found (15) live 12 gauge cartridges and (24) 9mm live rounds for which they did not have a license. While the three charges are in relation to the gun , ammo, and shooting, police have not said anything about charges in relation to the marijuana plantation.
