And it seems the family of 18 year old Hilberto Sotz, will not have to wait around too long for justice to be served as authorities are charging two of their own with first degree murder. They are Police Constables Nelson Nunez and Hallet King. The original report from the Caye Caulker Police Department said that Sotz was the prime suspect in the investigations of a series of burglaries that happened on the island. Police authorities of Caye Caulker indicated that around 5 pm, Sotz was taken to a private room to be interviewed. They further stated that Sotz started complaining of having chest pains and difficulty breathing. As a result, he was rushed to the community poly clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. However the postmortem examination made some telling discoveries of internal bleeding and head trauma that debunks the original police report that Sots died of natural causes. Police constables Nelson Nunez and Hallet King are believed to have been involved with the interview and so they were immediately detained and now charged for Sotz’ murder. Furthermore, we understand that the entire Caye Caulker Police Department has been placed on interdiction due to the gravity of the matter. Heading the internal investigation is Assistant Commissioner of Police Noel Leal, the Head of the Professional Standards Branch. He is quoted as saying, “I would like to assure the people that the investigations were carried out very impartially and as transparently as possible. Our men did wrong, they will have to face the consequences of their action.” Sometime around 5:30 this evening, PC Nelson Nunez and PC Hallet King were formerly arraigned for first degree murder at the Belize City Magistrate’s court. And were remanded to prison until July 14 when thy are to reappear in court..
