UB student arrested for Belize City’s last known murder

vlcsnap-2013-07-19-18h37m31s156The last murder in Belize City occurred 11 days ago when 21-year-old Jamal Anthony Neal was gunned down in the late evening of Monday, July 8, 2013.   Today, almost two weeks later, police say their trigger man has been identified as 21-year-old A UB student, Jedd Burgess.  Mr Burgess, who was unrepresented, appeared before the Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer to be read a single charge of murder.   No plea taken and due to the nature of the offense, he was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until September 3, 2013.   On Monday, July 8, Neal was on Banak Street sitting with a group of persons when two men on a motorcycle rode up and opened fire. As many as eight shots rang out and Neal was fatally injured.   Jamal Neal is no stranger to police. He had several charges including robbery pending in the Magistrate’s Court.
