The University of Belize Faculty and Staff Association is currently at odds with the University’s Board of Trustees. For the past week, the association has voiced its unease with the UB payroll audit report, that they claim contains financial and managerial irregularities. The association says that despite taking their concerns to the Board of Directors, as well as the Minister of Education, the situation is not being dealt with in a fair and transparent manner. So, after holding a demonstration on the university’s central campus yesterday, they are now organizing a sick out day. In a release we received today from the UBSFA, they say, – and we quote “All UB employees are encouraged to participate as it will continue to draw attention to the administrative and human resources issues plaguing UB personnel and which is lending to poor governance of the institution.” The release goes on to say, “These issues we know so well, as they at times impact the quality of service we provide to students and disregard our professionalism, our dedication and our commitment.” The USBFA say they will continue to unite against the current administrative issues, their concerns are addressed.
