UDP Endorsement Rally held for PG municipal slate

On  Sunday, September 14th, several hundred supporters of the United Democratic Party gathered in Punta Gorda Town, for the endorsement of the team that will contest next year’s municipal elections.

The event was held at the Corner of Cemetery and West Streets, on one of the recently paved roads.

Guests from outside the district included Mayor of Belize City, Daryl Bradley, as well as several other standard bearers, including Toledo West’s Eden vlcsnap-2014-09-16-08h19m38s63Martinez.

The PG UDP team includes: Fern Gutierrez, running for mayor, and six councilor candidates; namely, Aston Mckenzie, Aphaine Avila, Lucy Cayetano, Winston Chun, Luzanne Gutierrez, and Franklin Stephen Polonio.

The Punta Gorda town council is currently under the stewardship of PUP Mayor, Anthony Fuentes.

The council recently made national news when Prime Minister Dean Barrow stated in the National Assembly that the council had to be given a Financial Controller, because Mayor Fuentes used Council funds to pay a personal loan at the Toledo Teachers Credit Union.

vlcsnap-2014-09-16-08h18m37s234Mayor Fuentes responded in a Press Conference the following week, by demanding an apology from PM Barrow, claiming that the amount deducted from the subvention and put towards his loan would be deducted by the council from his salary.

Town board  elections are slated for March of 2015.
