The Contract for the upgrading and rehabilitation of the Corozal Town Market and Sports Complex facilities is valued at $721,789.40 and was signed On Monday in Belmopan. The contract for the two facilities was signed by Mr. Liborio Vega of LV and SONS Construction, and Mr. William Lamb Jr. the Executive Director, Belize Social Investment Fund.
The market project is designed to upgrade a section of the existing market of 220 square meters, particularly 15 market stalls which were in a dilapidated condition.
The Sports Complex will also be upgraded with the construction of a new football field enclosed with a concrete block wall, lighting, and filling to alleviate flooding of the field. A notable feature of the project includes the construction of concrete bleacher stands with ramps for persons with disabilities.
These projects are being financed by the Government of Belize through a loan from the World Bank under the Belize Municipal Development Project (BMDP) along with three per cent contributed by the Corozal Town Council.
